Do you notice the effect on these numbers? The % symbol becomes a value of one (1)
and is arithmetically removed (one times any number equals that number), and the decimal
point moves two places to the left.
When fractional percents are converted to decimal form, remember that the fraction is
a portion of 1%, such as 1/2 % is one-half of 1% which are in the thousandths (refer to
Chapter 3, Figure 3-2). Thus as a decimal 1/2% is (1/2 % ÷ 100% =) 0.005.
Example B: Change (a) 1/2%, (b) 3/8%, and (c) 2/3% to decimal fractions.
Solution: (a) 1/2% = 0.5% = 0.005
