Sample Cover Letters and Résumés
When developing a résumé you should construct a master
résumé that outlines all of you, by including everything that
emphasizes your experiences and background. From the master
résumé you craft specific resumes to meet the special needs and
requirements of potential employers.
Résumés that are acted upon are those that demonstrate the
writer’s potential to meet the needs of the employer and thus solve a
problem that the employer needs to resolve.
Your résumé must speak loudly and clearly of your value as a
potential employee. Therefore you should (1) find out what the
employer’s need is and then (2) craft your résumé to meet that need.
Your value and the employer’s need must be apparent in the first
few lines; boldly, directly have all of the arrows point to you.
Your résumé’s emphasis is on what has happened in your
business life; the actions you took to accomplish things, and what
supportive personal characteristics you brought to the job.
Anyone, in any job, can be viewed more favorably than their
competition if they are better prepared and organized, which your
résumé demonstrates.
The following pages contain examples of resumes and cover
letters. These should be used by you to know how good resumes are
constructed and examples of cover letters that can be crafted for
your advantage.
