In the Poultry industry one recurring calculation is the percent egg Production. This expression
means the number of eggs produced is what percent of the number of hen-days.
Example A: An egg producer has 100 hens in a pen for 30 days and they lay 1,840 eggs. (a)
Calculate the number of hen-days and (b) what is the Percent production?
Solution:
(a) Hen-Days
Birds Days Hen-Days
100 30 100 x 30 = 3,000 hen days
EXPLINATION
Hen-Days = # of hens x # of days
Hen-Days = 100 hens x 30 days
Hen-Days = 3,000 hen-days
(b) Percent Production = (# eggs ÷ hen-days) x 100%
Percent Production = (1,840 ÷ 3,000) x 100%
= (0.613) x 100%
Percent Production = 61.3 %
