Figure 12.3 Poultry Water Nipples — Number of nipples per bird varies
Broiler: 8-12 birds / nipple
Bird in cage: 12 birds / nipple
Turkey: 20 birds / nipple
Duck: 10 birds / nipple
Breeder: 10 birds / nipple
Example B: 1,600 poults will be reared in a grow house that is 8,000 square feet. Feeders cost
$16.99 each, waterers cost $7.95 each, and heat lamp with bulb costs $15.00 each.
How many and what is the cost of (a) heat lamps, (b) feeders that are 38 inches in
circumference giving each bird 2” of space and (c) waterers with 24” circumference
giving each bird 2” of space.
Solution:
a) # of Heat Lamps = space square footage ÷ 100 square ft/lamp
= 8,000 ÷ 100 square ft/lamp
a) # of Heat Lamps = 80 lamps
Cost = Quantity x price per unit
= 80 x $15.00
Cost = $1,200.00
